Day 5: Maidens to Dunure

Day’s total km: 17km (includes walking around Ayr after arrival)

Sunny! Long stretches of beach, some rock walking, forest path, fields, road side.

Bye bye Woodland Bay. Thanks for the stay!
We missed a sign just before here.
But it meant we got to walk here, and that was lovely!

In the forest on the way to Culzean Castle

The Kraken, made of metal wire and willow.
Some signs were a little trickier to see than others.
Up!
Through farmer’s fields
An old war time coastguard look out.

We took the bus to Ayr from Dunure, and headed to our new accommodations, which had a high rating on Booking.com. Sadly, it did not deserve those ratings, and both my and Dad’s expectations were shattered. I would not rent from Donnini Apartments again, but we will make due. The bed sheets are clean and the area is quiet. It’s all a bit weird as I received a message from them the day before our arrival saying the flat we had rented was “offline” but they had another place for us. I booked it over a month ago so I don’t understand why they waited until the last minute to say the one we rented was not available. The management company feels dodgy.

Dirty dishes. Ick.

Anyway, I feel tricked and disappointed, but won’t let it ruin an otherwise magnificent experience.

Michael, from the Woodland Bay Hotel, generously helped us with our luggage transfer by driving our bags to our new dwelling, where he met us in his van at 5:30pm. Fantastic!

Ayr is bigger and has more restaurant choices. We had dinner at a lovely restaurant, Pizzaioli Italian, bought groceries, and came back to the icky flat and crashed.
