Day 3: Woodland Hotel to Lendalfoot

Day’s Kms: 9

The view of the sky at 7:45am today.
The sky shortly after we started walking at 9:45am.

It was a short and sweet walking day. We started at 9:45am. Rather than wait to catch the bus to Lendalfoot (where we finished yesterday), which didn’t come until after 10:30am, we walked south to north from our accommodation to Lendalfoot, and then we took the bus back to our accommodation (Woodland Bay) at 2:30pm. The down side of walking north to south on this trail is the wind…we had it and the accompanying rain in our faces for much of our outdoor day.

The first section was my favourite, beach walking.

Like the Earth’s spine.
Then a little roadside walking (not my fav, but I’m so happy to be able to do this with Dad).
Then up an old coach road and through some sheep pastures.
Kissing gates are one type of gate that keeps the animals in or out. You squish in, have the gate kiss the other post, and slip out….
….and ALWAYS reattach the chain.
Two kissing gates on each side of this old shepherd’s cottage. We didn’t see any trail signs and missed this. Luckily, we only walked another 500m before figuring it out and reading the guide book again.
Back down the other side. That’s Lendalfoot below.
Yay! More beach and rocks! And lunch.
There is a lot of plastic crap and trash in Scotland. I’m curious. As I picked this up, I was reminded of the story about the man throwing the starfish back in the sea, only I was doing the opposite by taking something from the shore and tossing it in the garbage. I may have made a difference to whatever sea creature didn’t get tangled in those.
Not much going on in Lendalfoot, population approx. 120. I did go back to the lady’s home where I was invited yesterday so I could use her loo today. She was so gracious. Such generosity.
