We walked 20km today, but my Dog!! I was tired. We went up 300 floors according to my health app on the phone.
I started the morning with a 4am wake up. I was stiff and sore yet had a calm feeling, as though I was shifting into another state of mind. I wanted to keep sleeping though as the thought of using my body again was difficult.
We had a package of oatmeal each, with dried apricots and apple, tidied up, and headed off into the misty morning at about 9:30am.
The first part of the trail was woods. Then urban. Then a long gravel road that eventually became the Old King’s Road. There were several significant ups on the road. My feet were hot so I changed socks to a lighter pair and that helped the hot spot on my left pinky toe.
The sun came out after noon, and walking in overcast skies has been amazing.
We stopped for a rest at a hotel overlooking the valley below. Kleivstua hotel was super romantic in the sun…we stopped and had a rest on the patio overlooking Steinsfjorden below us.
An older gentleman came to speak with us. He had grown up in the area. He was meeting some walkers who were coming from below and walking up the old King’s Road to visit the King’s Viewpoint, which is apparently beautiful, but we missed it. Will we get to a point where extra steps off the trail are inviting?
We walked down the steep hill to our hotel below and were welcomed by a gorgeous hotel, one of the oldest in Norway, Sundvollen. Shower! Beautiful view and awesome food in the restaurant! Luxury is so so wonderful after a little roughing it! Now to bed to rest for 24 kms tomorrow (though today was meant to be 24 and my app only recorded 21).
We’ll be roughing it the next few nights so not sure if I’ll get to post.
